Fast Facts on Fertility

Fertility is such an important topic to discuss, which is why I chose to focus on it this week. The rates of infertility in the United States can be alarming. Nearly 10% of women aged 15-44 have trouble getting pregnant or having a healthy pregnancy and up to 15% of couples can say the same.

It can be overwhelming to hear those facts. However, they aren’t meant to scare us, but rather bring about awareness and empower us to take control of our health.

Luckily, there are so many things we can do to increase our chances of a healthy pregnancy. Let’s take a look at some important ones:

  • Nutrition:

    • Load up on fruits, veggies, healthy fats and organic sources of protein. Dark leafy greens, asparagus and beets are an excellent source of folate. Looking for omega-3s? Avocados and nuts are a great go-to. All of the dark berries are packed with antioxidants and tend to be low-sugar. Bottom line, these are beneficial and increase rates of fertility.

    • Make sure to avoid anything refined or processed, especially in terms of carbs and sugars. Consuming these foods, particularly high-glycemic ones, can create insulin resistance. This can disrupt ovulation, decreasing chances of conception.

  • Supplementation

    • When it comes to vitamins, antioxidants and minerals, it’s always important to get them from food first. However, supplementation is incredibly helpful, especially in terms of fertility! In particular, folate and B12 are necessary for a healthy pregnancy. Access my online store here for all of your prenatal needs.

  • Rest:

    • The process leading up to pregnancy can sometimes be stressful - both emotionally and physically. Making sure that your body is getting adequate sleep and relaxation is beyond important. This lends to overall health and reproductive health, which will ultimately increase chances of conception.

  • Acupuncture:

    • Want to increase your IVF success rate? Acupuncture is an amazing tool that I recommend utilizing at specific points of your cycle to do just that. Let’s add in the fact that it does wonders for stress reduction and healing, both of which help immensely when trying for a baby!

Eating clean and supplementing when you can are just some of my recommendations when trying to conceive! Additionally, acupuncture can greatly help with IVF success rates and will help you de-stress before and during pregnancy - and who doesn’t want that?
