Holistic Hormone Balancing
Hormones affect virtually everything: from weight, complexion, digestion, and sleep to libido, our energy, and our reproductive organs. DLW strives to find the root cause of hormonal imbalances and works to correct, reverse and rebalance from the inside out with naturopathic medicine (like herbal formulations and nutrient-dense supplements), condition-specific nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and acupuncture.
Hormone Conditions Dr. Lana & the DLW Team Specialize In
HPA Dysfunction (formerly known as Adrenal Fatigue)
Cortisol, your body’s primary stress hormone, is released by the adrenal glands in response to signals from the brain. While this system is essential for short-term survival, chronic stress can disrupt the entire HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis.
This dysregulation may lead to symptoms like fatigue, anxiety, poor sleep, digestive issues, inflammation, weight changes, and that feeling of being “wired but tired.” At our clinic, we evaluate HPA function to identify underlying imbalances and help restore energy, resilience, and long-term well-being through naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, nutrition, & lifestyle adjustments.
Cortisol
Imbalance
Cortisol, known as your “stress hormone,” is a steroid hormone released by your adrenal glands when your brain perceives stress. or danger
From an evolutionary perspective, cortisol has been a helpful survival tool. However, chronic stress, which many of us experience today, results in excessive cortisol production secretion, predisposing individuals to weight issues, immune insults, gut inflammation, impaired digestion and dysbiosis, as well as burnout, chronic fatigue, and that feeling of “wired but tired.”
Neurotransmitter
Balancing
A variety of health conditions stem from an imbalance in neurotransmitter production, brain chemistry, and nervous system dysregulation. These imbalances can manifest as anxiety and depression, mood swings, concentration issues such as ADHD, brain fog, burnout, and sleep disturbances.
All of these have in common that they can lead to increased systemic levels of inflammation, gastrointestinal irritation, poor nutrient absorption, and skewed perception of stress, further perpetuating current health concerns and compromising our adrenal health.
Thyroid
Conditions
Your thyroid is a key regulator of your metabolism, influencing everything from energy levels and temperature control to digestion, skin, hair, and nail health.
When it’s overactive (hyperthyroidism) or underactive (hypothyroidism), you can experience a wide range of symptoms.
At DLW, we support healthy thyroid function through personalized nutrition, lifestyle changes, and targeted supplements and herbs.
Acne + Inflammatory
Skin Conditions
Our approach to addressing acne by always looking at the most common offenders: inflammation, gut health, candida, SIBO, and food sensitivities, to name a few examples), and hormonal imbalance.
Team DLW works together to uncover the root cause of your complexion issues and works to calm your skin and correct the issue at hand. Skin conditions include but are not limited to acne, acne rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, perioral dermatitis, rashes, and fungal infections.
Weight
Gain/Loss
Unexplained weight changes are often tied to hormonal imbalances—like thyroid issues, Insulin resistance, excess Estrogen, PCOS, or HPA dysfunction—all of which can fuel inflammation.
At DLW, we identify the root cause and guide your body back to balance using targeted nutrition, acupuncture, and naturopathic therapies.
Hair Loss
Thinning or shedding hair is often a sign of deeper internal imbalances—commonly related to stress, thyroid dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies, or hormonal shifts such as postpartum changes or PCOS.
Using a naturopathic approach, we work to identify the root cause and restore healthy hair growth through targeted nutrition, herbal medicine, acupuncture, and lifestyle support.
Libido
Support
Libido levels (especially in women) can change throughout the month and can impact your mental health, mood stability, digestion, and sex drive.
At DLW, we work to find the root cause behind your diminished sex drive, gut issues, HPA/HPO dysfunction, inflammation, hormonal imbalance) and work diligently to restore it via supplementation, nutrient repletion, lifestyle modifications, stress management, nutrition counseling, and hormonally-focused acupuncture sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hormone Balancing
What are the signs of a hormonal imbalance?
Hormonal imbalance can manifest in dozens of ways: fatigue, weight gain or loss, irregular periods, acne, hair loss, mood swings, anxiety, depression, poor sleep, low libido, brain fog, hot flashes, and digestive issues. Because hormones interact so intricately, one imbalance often triggers others — which is why a whole-system evaluation is essential.
What hormone tests do you run?
We use the DUTCH test (dried urine test for comprehensive hormones — the gold standard for sex hormone and Cortisol metabolite assessment), thyroid panels (TSH, free T3, free T4, reverse T3, thyroid antibodies), fasting Insulin and glucose, comprehensive metabolic panels, and adrenal function tests. We order what's clinically indicated — not a one-size-fits-all panel.
What is HPA dysfunction (formerly adrenal fatigue)?
HPA dysfunction refers to dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Chronic stress causes the adrenal glands to over- or under-produce Cortisol over time, leading to symptoms like fatigue, wired-but-tired feeling, poor sleep, anxiety, brain fog, immune suppression, and weight changes. We evaluate HPA function through Cortisol rhythm testing and create individualized support plans.
Can hormones be balanced naturally without HRT?
For many women and men, yes — especially when imbalances are caught early and the underlying drivers are addressed. Naturopathic tools including targeted nutrition, botanical medicine, adaptogenic herbs, acupuncture, and lifestyle modification, can meaningfully shift hormone levels. For some individuals, bioidentical or conventional hormone therapy may be appropriate; we discuss this collaboratively with your full health picture in mind.
How long does hormone rebalancing take?
Most patients begin to notice meaningful improvements within 6–12 weeks of consistent naturopathic care, with more significant shifts over 3–6 months. The timeline depends on how long the imbalance has been present, the underlying cause, adherence to the protocol, and individual biochemistry.
